Description
Before Libuše Jarcovjáková was known as the “Nan Goldin of Czechoslovakia,” she was a young woman trying to understand her place and purpose in the world when the Soviets invaded Prague in 1968. Seldom without a camera in her hands, Libuše documented herself every day for years.

I’m Not Everything I Want to Be uses these black-and-white photographs alongside audio narration of her daily journal entries to capture her increasing alienation and isolation in the country she once called home.

Reviews
“It brings out the cinematic qualities of the photographs themselves and their ability to document a life through its ambivalences.” - Cineuropa

“Honest and forthright, and genuinely bold in both conception and execution, Tasovská achieves something quite special with I’m Not Everything I Want to Be, a film that is both intimate and sprawling in vision, and a tremendous odyssey into the trials and tribulations of a true pioneer.” - International Cinephile Society

“one of the most profound, engaging documentaries I have seen in a long time” - Film Fest Report
