Description
A brilliant, beguiling film from the director of In the City of Sylvia, Jose Luis Guerin's The Academy of Muses fuses elements of documentary and fiction for a thrilling meditation on desire, love and gender in literature and today's society.

Dante's Beatrice. Lancelot's Guinevere. At the University of Barcelona, professor Raffaele Pinto teaches a class espousing the importance of muses in art and history - women (and always women) who have inspired great artists and writers. His students, made up almost entirely of women, take issue with some of his pronouncements, as does his wife.

Guerin uses this set-up to put into motion a series of romantic entanglements (between Pinto and his students) and sharp arguments (between Pinto and his wife) that threaten the foundation of both his marriage and ideas.
